Relatives were unable to identify the body after travelling to Linden late yesterday but Stabroek News was told that the person is Inderpaul Singh, 23, called ‘Black boy’ of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

His mother, Radha Narine called ‘Chano’ said that she could not say much when contacted last evening but noted that she had received a call informing of her son’s death. Singh’s father journeyed to Linden but was unable to identify the body because the mortuary was closed.

Reports reaching this newspaper are that Singh was bathing alone at Bamia Creek when he went to a nearby bridge and plunged into the water. The incident occurred at about 5 pm. A woman, who lives close to the area, said that the water was shallow and when she went to check, she saw the body. She reportedly saw as Singh plunged into the creek.

The police were notified and the body was taken to the Mackenzie Hospital mortuary.
A number of persons gathered at Singh’s Mon Repos home last evening as they held a wake. Narine said that earlier her son had gone to the interior to mine. Police are investigating the incident.
