Police in a press statement last evening said they were investigating the incident which occurred at about 9.30 Saturday night. Three young men, they said, had reportedly been abducted and beaten by a group of about ten men who claimed that they had stolen a quantity of poultry from a farm in Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Investigations, police reported, had revealed that some of the men in the group had been dressed in dark clothing and had claimed to be policemen.
They were travelling in three vehicles. The group went to the home of Andy Singh, 17, of Belle West, WBD, and told him that he was wanted at the police station and placed him in one of the vehicles. They then went to a liquor restaurant and picked up Nandkumar Darshan, 17, and Dhanraj Chattergoon, 19, both also of Belle West.
The teens were then taken to a poultry farm at Alliance, Canal Number Two where they were accused of stealing poultry and beaten about their bodies.
At about 11.10pm Saturday some of the men took the teens to the station where they informed the police that they had stolen a quantity of chicken. However, as a result of investigations the owner of the poultry farm and four other men were arrested and are now in police custody. Two motor cars used by the men were also detained.
The three victims were taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where they were treated and sent away. Investigations, police said, were ongoing.
