Chanderpal could not be reached for comment esterday.

Sources close to OP disclosed yesterday that Chanderpal was cleaning out his desk earlier this week and has since left the office. The reasons for his departure have not been disclosed. Chanderpal’s exit comes at a time when President Jagdeo is advancing the country’s Low Carbon Development Strategy and while crucial climate change talks are underway in Copenhagen.

Stabroek News contacted Press and Publicity Officer at OP, Kwame McCoy, who said the matter was not for him to either confirm or deny.

McCoy said no official word has reached him about Chanderpal leaving OP and he referred this newspaper to the Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon.

Dr. Luncheon could not be reached for a comment. Chanderpal had previously served as Minister of Agriculture.

He later resigned over what were said to be differences with government officials on a key part of the sector.

He was later appointed presidential advisor. Chanderpal is also a key figure in the executive and central committees of the PPP.
