Brazilian shopkeeper shot, robbed

A Brazilian businessman was on Sunday robbed of raw gold and cash when two armed men descended on his Bartica residence and shot him twice before assaulting his wife.

The police said yesterday that they are investigating the armed robbery which occurred around 13:00 hours at Oku, Bartica during which Ivan Perreira, 41, was attacked and robbed by the two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun and the other a knife.

According to a press release, investigations revealed that Perreira was in his shop along with his wife when the men entered and held them up while demanding cash.

The businessman hesitated and was shot twice to his left leg after which the men took away a quantity of raw gold and $200,000 before escaping.

Perreira was taken to the Bartica Hospital for medical attention and according to the release his wife who was assaulted during the incident was treated at the same hospital.
