(Trinidad Guardian) – Officers of the Homicide Bureau are investigating five murders which took place between Friday and Sunday.
Police said that around 2.45 am, officers responded to a report that the body of a man was seen lying on the westbound lane of the Beetham Highway, in the vicinity of the NP gas station and the WASA pumping station.
When the officers got to the scene, they discovered that the victim had multiple gunshot wounds to the back and hands. Investigators said they believed that the victim was shot then tossed out of a moving vehicle. Up to late Sunday, the man who police said was of African descent remained unidentified. According to police, the victim appeared to be between ages 20 and 25, slim built, with a low hair cut. He was clad in a black pair of jeans, red T-shirt and a pair of white Nike sneakers.
Around 6 am, a security guard at the Ministry of Works and Transport’s Highways Division, St George West office on the El Socorro main road, was patrolling the compound when he stumbled upon the body of a man lying in a pool of blood. The police were notified and a team of officers led by Cpls Arcia, Mohammed, Figaro and PC Pinda went the scene.
Relatives later identified the victim as 60-year-old Mobarack “Jango” Ali, also known as Sheriff Ali. They told police that Ali did odd jobs and had no fixed place of abode. According to police, Ali was stabbed several times about the body and his face bashed in. Investigators seized a bloodstained knife and a large boulder from the scene, which they believe were used in the attack. Police said they received information that Ali was beaten and robbed by two homeless men, after allegations of “who thief from who.”
After Ali was murdered, his attackers stole his possessions and shared them among themselves. Relatives told the Guardian that Ali recently received an undisclosed sum of money from the National Insurance Board.
Investigations are also continuing into the murders of 71-year-old Martin Alleyne of Rio Grande, Matura, and 38-year-old Mario Garcia, of Mon Repos Road in Morvant.
