Woman brutally assaulted

(Antigua Sun) – Shondell Glasgow’s face is battered and bruised almost beyond recognition and she could barely speak more than 24 hours after an ordeal which she said she hopes no other woman in Antigua and Barbuda would have to endure.

Driving home from work about 4 am, the security guard who is employed at a Casino in St John’s said a vehicle appeared behind her, moved to overtake the Toyota Corolla she was driving but then quickly swerved to cut off the path to her home in Gray’s Hill.

She watched in horror as a masked gunman whom she described as being of medium-built jump out of his vehicle and point his weapon at her. She had already locked the car door but he moved closer and threatened to shoot her if she did not get out of the car, she finally gave in to his demands. Her assailant quickly forced her into his vehicle and then drove to a secluded area, some distance away from where she was abducted.
“He tell me to get out of the car and to take off my pants and underwear.”

Glasgow said the man demanded that she face the car and not look back in his direction.

“He had a metal club-like thing and he put that down on the car and I could hear like he was fighting with something and I suspected he was trying to put on a condom. I say to myself that I wasn’t going to let him rape me and I made a grab for the thing on the car,” she told the AntiguaSun in an exclusive interview.

She added that the man also grabbed at the club, overpowered her and used the heavy object to strike her across the face causing blood to spring from her nose which was badly gashed.

“I mean, I wasn’t going to let him rape me and started fighting, fighting, fighting.”
She added the last she knew of the gun he had earlier was that he appeared to be trying to shoot at her, but that it might have become jammed.

Glasgow said she tried to get back into the car, but the man kept hitting her with the metal club on her thighs and legs. “By that time, I was bleeding plenty so I believe there is a lot of blood in the car he was driving,” she said.

Glasgow added that she started to search for anything she could use as a weapon. Meanwhile he pulled a knife from somewhere and fired a couple of stabs at her, none of which connected. She ran and he followed her, beating her about the body with the club. She said she got a solid blow to her neck and another one to the back of her head. The second opened up a cut and there was more blood to add to that already streaming down her face. Another blow aimed at her head only partially connected as she had put up her hand to ward off the blow. Still, it drew blood from her head and she later realised that one of her fingers had been split open and a bone was protruding through the skin.
