Guyanese man refused bail in Antigua

(Antigua Sun) – Guyanese Mark Pluck was denied bail after his lawyer Vere Bird Jr made an application on his behalf before Chief Magistrate Ivan Walters.

Bird in applying for the man to be released from custody told the court that Pluck’s common-law wife and children were ordered removed from the state, but the attorney said they have been unable to purchase their tickets and added that the accused man is applying for bail so that he can assist.

Bird said Pluck had some of the money in the bank and asked the court to release the Guyanese man so he could access the funds and pay for the tickets for his family.

Bird admitted though that Pluck would need to get additional funds to go toward the purchase of the tickets, but said that Pluck would acquire the added finances from someone.

The magistrate said he was not minded to grant Pluck bail because he was removed from the state in 1999 and found his way back here.
Pluck was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

He has pleaded not guilty to remaining in the state after the expiration of a permit on 8 April.

Pluck is alleged to have remained in the country between 9 April and 26 June, 2009. He has been living at Pestania Street, Villa.
The trial is set for 21 July.
