Guns seized in Morvant raid

(Trinidad Express)  – A 15-year-old secondary school student is among eight people who were arrested on Monday, following the seizure of a stash of arms and ammunition in Morvant.

Police reports state that around 2.30 am, a team of officers raided the Morvant Old Road Extension, Morvant home of a man and found an Uzi firearm and 114 rounds of assorted ammunition. The items were reportedly found hidden in the living room and belonged to a gang operating within the area.

All occupants of the house, including two women, 18 and 37, were taken to the Morvant Police Station where they were placed on identification parades. The suspects are expected to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate later this week to answer several charges, including possession of arms and ammunition.

This latest bust comes three days after officers found a shotgun hidden among some tyres in the La Platte Village, Maraval area. The officers reportedly received information around 11 am and after searching the area found the firearm. Officers believe the firearm was left there to be transported to another area.

A few hours later, officers were on patrol in the Savannah Terrace, Bagatelle, Diego Martin area when they saw two men. The men, upon seeing the officers, dropped an item and ran off.
