Labourer denies stealing cables from brother

A labourer yesterday pleaded not guilty to the charge of simple larceny when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on February 2 at Georgetown, Imran Rahaman of 7 James Street, Albouystown, stole 10 reels of earth cables valued $70,000, property of Ahmad Rahaman.

Police Prosecutor Sherwin Matthews asked that bail be denied on the grounds that the defendant is a repeat offender in the matter and  he and the virtual complainant are brothers so the offence can be repeated.

The defendant was subsequently placed on bail in the sum of $50,000 and is to return to court on March 5 for statements.
