This newspaper understands that the man, who arrived at the hospital accompanied by the police just before midday, has confessed to swallowing 100 pellets.
According to reports, the man was about to board a plane destined for Jamaica at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri yesterday morning and was observed acting in a suspicious manner. He was detained by police and questioned. This is the second outgoing Jamaican to be held at the airport after being suspected of swallowing cocaine.
Last month Errol Barrette of 11 Duke Street, Falmouth, Jamaica was arrested and admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he passed out 45 pellets weighing 516 grammes. At the time of his arrest he was preparing to board a Caribbean Airlines flight bound for Jamaica.
During his detention at the medical institution the man had denied any wrongdoing.
He was charged on February 19 with trafficking in narcotics and after pleading guilty was sentenced to three years in prison together with a fine of $10, 000.
In his address to Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, Griffith who had been making concrete blocks at Friendship for the past three months took full responsibility for his actions.
