Linden policewoman murder PI restarts

The preliminary inquiry (PI) in the murder charge against ex-police officer Kevin Waterman recommenced on Tuesday at the Christianburg Magistrate’s court in Linden.

Waterman allegedly murdered Eleanor Jones, who was also a police officer, Saturday 7 July, 2007 at her Silvertown home. Jones was attached to the Mackenzie police station.

On Tuesday the prosecution presented three witnesses; a neighbour Walter Alexander; police corporal Shundel Williams and the victim’s mother Elaine Jones.

Many persons in the courtroom were moved to tears as the mother, all dressed in black, gave her testimony.

A PI into the matter was stopped in 2007 when the defence lawyer had moved to the High Court requesting that the case not be heard before Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys, who was at the time presiding at the Christianburg Magistrate’s Court because he was said to have been a close friend of the victim.

The court was advised that the proceedings in the High Court were withdrawn since Magistrate Gilhuys was no longer presiding at the Christianburg Court hence the recommencement of the hearing. The matter will continue on September 1.
