Man stabbed at wedding reception brawl

For Basdeo Narine, what may have been an unintentional bump landed him in a hospital bed.
Narine, 35, was on Sunday admitted as a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital after suffering severe blows and stab wounds inflicted  by two men, who claimed that he was trying to dance with one of their girlfriends at a wedding reception.

When Stabroek News visited Narine at his hospital bed at the Male Surgical ward yesterday, he said that he was at the reception dancing and had accidentally bumped into a young woman.  Moments after, Narine said, two men accosted him from behind and started hitting him in the head with a filled beer bottle. “Everybody de dancing and I just happen fuh jam she, suh I think that duh is why dey come fuh beat me cause me in get no problem with nobody,” Narine explained.

The Claybrick Road, Canal Number Two resident further explained that because of fear, no one rendered him any assistance when he was being beaten mercilessly by the duo. According to Narine, one of the two men has since been taken into police custody while the other is still at large.

Narine was badly beaten to his face and received several stabs about his body. He had blood clots to the right eye.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, an unidentified 37-year-old man of 107 Atlantic Gardens was admitted a patient to the Hospital after sustaining multiple stab wounds about his body, following an alleged robbery in the Stabroek Market area.

According to a press release sent by the Hospital, the man arrived at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Hospital at 9.50pm on Friday. He was seen by doctors and admitted to the male surgical ward.
