Four-year-old Satish Victor, the young Agricola East Bank Demerara resident who was struck down following a hit and run accident at Second Street, Agricola on Sunday night, passed away yesterday morning at the George-town Public Hospital (GPH) without regaining consciousness.
The young man’s mother Sushma Arjune told Stabroek News yesterday that when she went to visit the eldest of her three son’s yesterday morning at the 6 am visiting hour, hospital staff informed her that her son passed away shortly after 5 am yesterday .She said that the police were up to yesterday afternoon still in search for the rider of the scooter which was involved in the accident while his parents had approached her home to offer their sympathies yesterday.
The woman and her three children were returning to their Lot 101 Caesar Street, Agricola home on Sunday night following a visit to her sister–in-law at Covent Garden on the East Bank Demerara to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr. As she walked along the side of Second Street, Agricola around 6 pm with her three children, a motor cyclist who was racing with another at the time, slammed into Satish from behind. The impact pitched the child head first into a electrical pole before he landed in a nearby drain. He sustained severe head injuries as a result.
The injured lad was picked up by his mother and was rushed to the GPH by a nearby taxi-driver as his relatives gathered to offer their support to him and his parents. His relatives were hopeful that he would have survived the accident.
Satish Victor is survived by his parents and two younger brothers and his remains are expected to be buried later this week as the police carry out investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death.
