President of the group, Narine Doodnath, told Stabroek News that prominent members: Rendell Seelall and MA Khan who are based in America had acquired the funds for the venture.

He said some of the children also received cash while the local members took the children to a store at Rosignol and purchased items including school-bags, socks, shoes and umbrellas.

The effort is expected to be an annual feature and Doodnauth said the idea of forming the group was born last year after some children from the community had to be assisted.

The group intends to erect a kiddies’ corner in front of Blairmont Primary and is currently waiting on the estate to give approval before they go ahead.
The president said the group would also do other projects for the school and community. He said their idea is to assist the poor and they are waiting on a shipment of clothing to arrive from America to conduct a clothing distribution.

Other local members of the group include Lakeram Sanichara, Shami Ganesh and Renata Ganesh.
