Bel Air man, beaten and chopped

Zaman Deen of 17 Belvoir Court related that he was in bed asleep when he was awakened to his door being kicked in. He said three men with cutlasses entered his room and started to “fire” chops and beat him with their weapons.

Deen said he was not fully awake and the men beat and chopped him and left him unconscious. He sustained chop wounds to his left hand and foot. According to Deen, one of his attackers is a man with whom he has had a longstanding problem.

The man, he said, wanted to buy his place but he had refused. Deen said this was probably the reason he was attacked. He further related that the men took his bicycle and wallet with money when they left.

Deen said the incident occurred around 3 am and he regained consciousness some time around 10 am and shouted for his neighbour who called his mother. Deen lives alone.

The mother who was at the bedside of her son at the Georgetown Public Hospital said she arrived thinking that her son was sick. Instead she found him lying in a pool of his own blood. The woman said several calls to get an ambulance to take her son to the hospital went unanswered and she eventually had to call a taxi service and arrange for a wagon to take her son to the hospital.

Deen underwent emergency surgery on arrival at the hospital, this newspaper was told.

Meanwhile, Deen’s assailants had not been apprehended up to late yesterday afternoon.

According to Deen’s mother, she had taken the police to the home of the man her son had the problem with but was told by the father that he was not there. She said the police told him to ask his son to report to the Kitty Police Station. However, Deen’s mother believes the man may have left the country. (Tiffny Rhodius)
