House goes up in flames twice in one year

A  West La Penitence resident last evening had his home go up in flames, reportedly for the second time in less than a year.

Ken Gordon, who resided at 73 West Front Road was not at home at the time of the fire. He lived alone.

Gordon told this newspaper that he had left his home some time after 9 pm and everything was in order. He said that his house was not supplied with electricity and he had not left a lit candle or a stove. He said some time later a neighbour telephoned and told him about the fire at his house and he quickly rushed back home.  According to him, his motorcycle was destroyed in the blaze, along with a bed and a battery-operated television set.

He told this newspaper that he believed the blaze was deliberately set, because in January his home had also gone up in flames.  He said that he had subsequently rebuilt it only for it to be burnt months later.

A quick response by the fire service was able to minimize the impact of the blaze, although parts of the neighbouring houses were scorched.
