Response to ‘aspersions’

Dear Editor,

It is absolutely necessary for me to respond to Mr Christopher Ram whose letter in the Stabroek News of January 19, captioned ‘The Fidelity Report should be released immediately,’ casts aspersions on my competence and ability based on my response to a question by your newspapers on the Fidelity report to be tabled in Parliament.

First of all the Sunday Stabroek article titled, ‘Fidelity report still to be tabled in Parliament,’ on  January 18, which quoted me, was not entirely correct as I never spoke for the parliamentary agenda. I said to the reporter that while the President might have promised to have the report released through Parliament, he does have a busy agenda.

That apart, Mr Ram’s credibility is highly questionable and therefore he has no moral authority to comment on my competence and ability. It is the same Christopher Ram whose ‘Business Page’ in the Sunday Stabroek remains an example of conflict of interest since his auditing firm conducts audits for this very newspaper. Additionally, none of his articles in the ‘Business Page’ examines and/or criticizes the businesses/companies his firm is employed to audit.

As a self-proclaimed independent how does Mr Ram explain being the co-author for the People’s National Congress Reform, PNCR 2006 elections manifesto.

Yours faithfully,
Kwame McCoy
