We shouldn’t have to wait for the President to deal with problems

Dear Editor,
It is unacceptable that Guyana must wait for the President to find out about or deal with problems like the Demerara Harbour Bridge, sugar or the air traffic controllers, etc. Why is the Prime Minister not more involved in ministerial responsibilities which deal with critical issues whether the President is home or abroad?  It seems that when ministers or senior officers fail to address critical issues, they face no consequences.  If the President cannot rely on an official, then that official should be replaced.  That is why we have a President, cabinet and civil service − or is it?
Yours faithfully,
