The land alongside the Berbice Bridge road should become a national park because of its unique ‘wetland’ ecosystem

Dear Editor,

Kindly allow me to offer an alternative to the suggestion for the development of the land alongside the Berbice Bridge road, re-the letter of Friday, February 27, 2009 by Mr Dennis V. Debbidin, captioned ‘The land alongside the Berbice Bridge road should be reserved for commercial development’.

The land in question is a beautiful patch of ‘wetland’ with its own unique combination of flora and fauna. Its development should possibly be as a national park (along the lines of the Everglades National Park in Florida) in order to preserve its natural ecosystem.

Fast food and like commercial business, with all the attendant non-biodegradable litter and other wastes will spoil this beautiful natural landscape. As a matter of fact the vigorous enforcement of ‘no littering’ along the roadway should be already in place.

Yours faithfully,
Abraham David
