Water pressure in Strathspey dropped after new pipelines laid

Dear Editor,

Recently a multi-million dollar project was given out in Area ‘G’ Strathspey, East Coast Demerara, for the relaying of pipelines so that the residents (I am one) can receive potable water. However, there are several questions that I would like the relevant authorities to answer because whenever one calls the Guyana Water Inc (GWI) Melanie office there is no one who can answer your questions.

1. Can someone tell me what the objective of the above mentioned project was? Was it just to lay the pipelines and run a four-foot piece of blue pipe into residents’ yards? Ever since these lines were laid the pressure of the water received is as small as a child’s finger. When I asked the men who were laying the pipelines, they responded that that was not their concern. In order to receive water I (and several other residents also) now have to  purchase a water pump and pump water, which adds to our electricity bill. Would GWI take this into consideration when they are preparing our water bills?

2. The second thing is the quality of the water. It has thick sediment that has to settle before use. Can someone test this water and see if it is healthy for consumption?

3. During the pipe-laying process the  men damaged the road as well as the cross streets to the extent that there are some huge potholes. Would someone please fix our roads and streets?

These are just a few of our concerns.

Yours faithfully,
Roy Rampersaud
