Those who are denied justice because of police inaction should seek the assistance of the press

Dear Editor,

I am indeed pleased the way the mother of the young woman who was sexually assaulted, allegedly by a former policeman handled the matter. Most other mothers would have allowed the matter to fade into the oblivion, and the victim cope as best as she could. This mother together with a newspaper, in this case Stabroek News, sought justice and now the matter has reached the court.

Editor, when one wants to understand how justice is denied in Guyana one has to read how the police handled this matter; while the mother was being told the file was with the DPP, the said file had been returned to the police for the necessary action and forgotten in some corner. Just imagine how many such cases have not seen the light of day because the victim and those around did not seek the power of the press.

The motto of the police is service and protection! This is service and protection for whom?

I trust that others who feel they have been denied justice due to the inaction of the police seek the assistance of the press.

Yours faithfully,
W R George
