There will always be good, honest servicemen

Dear Editor,
The image of the Joint Services has been tainted with the theft from and murder of Mr Ramdass. There is a popular adage, ‘One bad apple spoils the whole barrel,’ but like Alan Fenty in one of his columns, I agree that a society of many bad apples is what we are left with. However there are and will always be good, honest, intelligent and dedicated servicemen, despite the challenges, and there was positive news to report on the successful Joint Services kidnap drama rescue operation in the Abary backdam which was most professional and involved no loss of lives or injury. The previous day the police also took persons into custody allegedly connected with the kidnapping of Dookie’s daughter. And the New Amsterdam division has a very good crime detection success ratio.
I concede that the society is not the same one which we senior citizens were acquainted with, but administrators should be advised that they will have to put mechanisms in place to detect the rotten apples, in addition to constant inspection during ‘storage.’ Take away the rule of law or law enforcement, and we have    anarchy.

A reason why we, like most other countries, have descended to this stage is that we no longer fear God. Religious bodies, families, teachers and law-abiding persons must all see themselves as part of the remedial process.
Yours faithfully,
