The Lindener Rudolph Mitchell still has not been recognized at the national level

In a recent edition of the Guyana Chronicle a story was published captioned, ‘Linden TC honours Mitchell for his 100 consecutive wins.’ I felt really great to read this story, for after the many letters I wrote to the press at least one Linden agency has recognized this great achievement by Lindener Rudolph Mitchell.

However, unfortunately at the national level he has not received any recognition for his achievement, and I call again on President Jagdeo, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Minister of Sport, Dr Frank Anthony and the National Sports Commission to come forward and honour this man in a tangible way.

At the same time I call for honours to be given to Ms Olga Harry and the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club (CSTC) of Soesdyke for their outstanding contribution to the development and expansion of the sport of race-walking in Guyana.

Had it not been for the dedication to the sport of the CSTC, Mitchell’s achievement would not have been a reality. I also urge the Region 10 RDC, the Linden Chamber of Commerce and the Linden Tourism Association to come forward with the political parties in the town and honour Mitchell and the CSTC.

I would also like to make some suggestions which I hope could be implemented.
(1) The Linden Museum should hold an exhibition of photographs and clippings on this new hero, Rudolph Mitchell.

(2) The organizers of the 20th Kashif and Shanghai Football competition should give Mitchell a lap of honour at the opening game at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground.

(3) Mitchell and the CSTC should be included in the NSC sports awards.

Yours faithfully,
Elaine Ward
