Dear Editor,
It was truly most distressing and painful to learn about the extinguishing of a hardworking human life. The murder of 74-year-old Cecil Hamilton really sends a serious message to law enforcement agencies, the security services, and to the nation of Guyana. We are in trouble in terms of morality when we take the life of our grandfather who still works to make a dollar or just to be busy.
I cannot imagine how the persons who committed this despicable act can wake and look themselves in the mirror, or put a morsel of God’s food in their mouths. Are they not ashamed of their lives as a consequence of this senseless murder? The President has to reinstate capital punishment in Guyana.
The press related that the wife and family were “inconsolable.” What do you expect? In his twilight years this man should enjoy his children, his home, his grandchildren, his life and his God. But the cruel hands of more youthful killers said there should be no respect for him; no honour, no dignity, no glory. They killed him as if they gave life.
May these killers be located and may they be dealt with harshly by the law. This murder is not ordinary. It sends a serious message.
