How is it the GFF wants to ban Riddim Squad from the Kashif and Shanghai tournament?

Dear Editor,

I read in your Monday issue (December 7) that the Guyana Football Federation is set to ban football club Riddim Squad from this year’s Kashif and Shanghai competition.

The only reason given is that the former president Eton Cordis has taken the GFF to court because he sustained injuries at a football game that was sanctioned by the same GFF. However, before the matter reached the steps of the court Mr Cordis relinquished all ties with the club. How is it then that the GFF, according to your news article, wants to ban Riddim Squad? If the GFF goes through with its threat, then the football clubs should withdraw from the tournament in solidarity with Riddim Squad. The GFF is being unfair, undemocratic and unprincipled.

And could you say why every day in your newspaper we have to see photos of Kashif and Shanghai collecting cheques from various sponsors? It seems that from Sunday to Sunday all we see are photos of members of the organization receiving various sums of money, trophies, etc. I understand that the tournament is one of the biggest in Guyana, but wouldn’t it serve your newspaper better to have just maybe one photo with the total amount of sponsorship received?  Or is Stabroek News part of a promotion campaign?

Yours faithfully,
Robert Trim
