Guyana’s captain Travis Dowlin yesterday told Stabroek Sports that he was pleased with his bowlers’ performance at the end of the first day of his team’s second round clash against the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) at the 3W’s Oval, Cave Hill.

“I thought that it was a very good performance by the bowlers. They stuck to their task very well, especially Bess (Brendon) who ended with three wickets, his highest so far at the first class level to date. “Kudos must be given to the work that was done in the nets,” he added.

The 31-year-old Dowlin, who was a part of the Stanford Superstars squad that defeated England in the US$20m winner-take-all contest, also praised the work of spin twins Veerasammy Permaul and Devendra Bishoo, who kept the CCC batsmen in check.

“I think the general display was quite good by the bowlers. Our spinners Bishoo and Permaul were very consistent with both their line and length. There are still three days of cricket left and we are looking forward to the rest of the days and giving over 100 per cent,” said Dowlin.

He added  that he never thought the game was getting away from him, as they went out with a plan and stuck to it, even executing to the last punctuation mark, despite the CCC being 262-8 at the end of the day’s play.

“For me, once we bowled to the game plan, I knew we would control the game after. I am not bothered by their score, albeit a good one as our batsmen are very confident. We have already placed the loss in the first round behind us and looking to coming out of this game with our heads held high.”

The CCC will start today’s second day at 262-8 with Ryan Austin not out on 3.
