Pistons, Jets in the lead

Wismar Pistons and Amelia’s Ward Jets with 11 points each are in the lead following the conclusion of the first round of the Linden Amateur Basketball Association’s (LABA) Pioneer Construction double round league championship.

They are followed by Victory Valley Royals on 10 points while Patriots follow with nine points.

Bulls have eight points while Retrieve Raiders and New Ballers occupy the cellar position.

Last Sunday Victory Valley Royals and GTS Bulls won their final matches at the Mackenzie Sports Club hard-court.

Royals won against Retrieve Raiders 52-47, while Glands Trucking Service Bulls defeated New Ballers 52-41.

Anson Durant led the Royals side with the game-high 17 points while teammates Alfie Fraser and Lawrence DaCosta chipped in with eight points each.

Dion Joseph was the top scorer for Raiders with 15 points while Omar Sam added 10 and Louis James eight.

In the other game, Bulls won 52-41 against New Ballers with Terrence James scoring 14 points and Ryan Joseph 10.

Gavin Fingal had nine points for the New Ballers while Junior Bakker got eight.

And last Friday Patriots got past Raiders 60-35 with Thornton Wilson getting 16 points and Neil Marks eight for the winners.

Raiders’ best player was Louis James whose 19 points earned him the accolade of best shooter on the night.
