Persaud’s ton blasts LGAY past Young Challengers

A pugnacious 63 balls 103 from Ricky Persaud enabled La Grange All Youths (LGAY) to blast their way past Young Challengers at the Providence ground when action in the Trophy Stall-sponsored 15 overs-a–side countrywide softball competition got underway last Sunday.

Winning the toss and opting to take first strike, LGAY on the back of Persaud’s belligerent innings, the first century of the competition which included seven sixes and five fours, reached 196-6 from their 15 overs. Joey Wilson 30 (3×6, 1×4) offered support to Persaud as Anil Singh who took 2-32 tried to keep his team in the reckoning.

But that was not to be as they were bowled out for a spirited 157 made in 13 overs, with Travis Wright contributing 83 (6×6, 5×4) against the bowling of Shiv and Khemraj Bissoon, who both took three wickets for 14 and 24 respectively, thus handing their team a 41-runs victory.

In the other match played at the same venue, Bhaiya XI defeated Independence Sports Club (ISC) by 21. Bhaiya XI won the toss and were bowled out for 100 from their 15 overs, with Clay Withrite leading the way with 25 (3×4) against the bowling of Shew Singh who grabbed 4-30.

In reply, ISC were bowled out for 79 from 11 overs with only Robin Persaud’s 21 which included two sixes, offering any resistance to Danny Bissoon who took 4-9 from three overs.

In the West Coast zone of the competition, Leonora Youths recorded a double victory at the Leonora Primary School ground as they defeated Rangers Sports Club and All Stars XI respectively, while in the Essequibo zone Die Hard and Young Warriors recorded victories but  Uprising failed to make an appearance for their encounter with Golden Fleece.
