R&R 40-miler on this Sunday

The 18th Annual R&R International Limited sponsored 40-mile cycle road race will pedal off at 9:00am this Sunday from the Demerara Harbour Bridge, proceed to Bushy Park, East Bank Essequibo, and back to the place of origin for the finish.

The first six finishers will receive prizes  while the first two juniors will also be rewarded, apart from the six prime prizes that will be up for grabs during the course of the race, compliments of representatives of the sponsors.
Defending senior champion John Charles who completed last year’s race in a time of 1:43:49, but was not a part of last Sunday’s Carlton Wheelers Cycle Club (CWCC) 38th Annual Mashramani road race which covered the same distance, should be seen in the saddle for this event.

But Charles who is the current senior road race champion will have to come with all guns blazing if he intends to take back the title to the mining town of Linden, considering the present form of  junior road race champion Christopher Holder.

Holder was the winner of the CWCC event, covering the distance in a time of 1:42:54 and he not only retained both the overall and junior titles, but also lowered his time recorded last year by two minutes, and he will be looking forward to retaining  his junior title in this event also.

But both of these cyclists will have to look out for riders in the calibre of Raymond Newton, Junior Niles, Robin Persaud, Tony Simon, Christopher Persaud, Geron Williams and Darren Allen, with the latter proving that he is the best sprinter around when he outsprinted the peloton moving from the back to claim the sixth position last Sunday.
