Athletes will invade the Police Sports Club ground at Eve Leary today when the Athletics Association of Guyana (AGG) sanctioned third and final Development Meet of 2009 gets underway with a scheduled 10:30am start.
Today’s meet is being staged through the combined efforts of the Guyana Road Runners, Royal Youth Movement and Running Brave Athletics Clubs.
The three clubs took the initiative to host today’s meet at the Eve Leary venue following the unavailability of the Enmore Community Centre Ground.
Numerous schools and clubs have already indicated their intention of competing in the meet where age group events range from Under-13 to Open.
This meet is expected to be more exciting than the previous event held two weeks ago as more athletes are listed to compete. Additionally, added to the list of events are relays for schools and clubs.
These relays will include mixed teams (male and female) for schools.
There is a charge of $100 per athlete to register for an individual event and athletes are restricted to only two individual events.
Relay teams will be charged $200 per team.
Technical Director for the meet Sham Johlly stated that this meet will have more athletes than the previous one on February 14.
He added that today’s meet will give the athletes and coaches a chance to see how they are progressing for the start of the competitive season.
Johlly said he hoped that the public would come out to support and witness a day of exciting competition.
Clubs expected to compete today are the New Amsterdam Track Club, Silver Bullets, Upper Demerara, RYM, Road Runners, Police Sports Club, Running Brave, Mercury Fast Laners and Enmore Track Club to name a few while schools such as Tutorial High and St. John’s College are also expected to make an appearance.
