Richmond Hill and Eastern Primary run out Mash Windball winners

Richmond Hill and Eastern Leguan Primary Schools are the winners of the Leguan Island Mashramani eight-a-side Windball cricket competition.

The six-overs-a-side tournament, which was played at the Enterprise Cricket Ground, was organised by Sports Officer Harvey Gobin and was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

In the girls final Richmond Hill defeated Eastern Leguan by 39 runs in a one-sided encounter.

Richmond Hill batted first and made 49-1 off their allotted overs.

Yashoda Chowtie topscored with 23 while Keesha Tuckett and Meena Wattie contributed 14 and 12 runs respectively.

Eastern Leguan, in reply, were shot out for 10 with Tucker bagging five wickets.

Success won the final Success batted first and made 22 with Chandra Shekar topscoring with 10.

Eastern Leguan knocked off the required runs from 3.3 overs.

A Combined Primary Schoolgirls team and Leguan Secondary played to a tie in a feature game.

Both teams made 36 runs.

In other results, Northern Leguan lost to Leguan Secondary by 27 runs.

Batting first Leguan Secondary made 49 and then dismissed Northern Leguan for 22.

In the final Leguan Secondary scored 41 and restricted Enterprise on their home ground to 17.

Meanwhile, the female Windball players presently in training for the West Indies championships just weeks away will be stepping up their preparation this weekend.

According to the organising body, the players will this weekend be involved in a few more trials.

All the out of town players are asked to be at the camp at Guyana Teachers’ Union no later than 5:00pm.

Session commences at 6pm on Friday.
