Mayor’s Cup Competition…Quarterfinal round commences tonight

Tonight marks the fifth day of the competition in the annual Mayor’s Cup Knockout Tournament powered by Digicel where four teams are set to collide in a quarterfinal round double header at the Georgetown Football Club ground.

A 6:00 pm kick off time is set for the double header which has Pele Football Club taking on Bakewell Buxton Stars in the curtain raiser while BK International Western Tigers and Sunburst Camptown will battle in the feature match of the evening at 8:00 pm.

The competition which began on February 20 saw the first round concluding last Sunday in a double header which had Camptown defeating Pouderoyen 2 – 1, compliments of a Telson McKinnon double and Western Tigers demolishing their opponents Uitvlugt 6 – 0 led by a terrific run by Devon Millington who scored five goals.

The victors of these two matches will meet each other in a semi-final on Wednesday evening while the victors of the two remaining quarterfinals that are to be played on Sunday will be the stepping stone to the semis for the winners.

Sunday will see Fruta Conquerors trying to pile the pressure on the well composed Guyana Defence Force (GDF) team in the curtain raiser while Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United will be looking to continue their terrific form against the GFC.
