Campbell’s XI takes final trial match

-Team selected but waiting on ratification

Shamain Campbell’s XI won the final Under-19 trial match organized by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), when they defeated Marina Bridgemohan’s XI by 25 runs at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground on Wednesday.

Having won the first two trial games, Campbell’s XI made a clean sweep with their victory in the match which is being used as a yard stick to select the national Under-19 female team to contest the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) female Under-19 tournament in St Lucia next month.

Winning the toss and opting to take first strike in the 50-overs-a side encounter, Campbell’s XI reached 159-6, with Campbell herself leading the way with an accomplished 60 which was decorated with six fours, before she retired.
Olivia O’ Selmo (20 retired) and Jessica Gonsalves with 11 were the other batters to pass double figures.
Nalini Sumintra grabbed 3-10 for Bridgemohan’s XI, who were bowled out for 134 in 49.3 overs in reply.
Katiana Mentore, who stroked three fours in her 27, Haseena Mohammed 24 and Nayesha Khan with 17 were the principal scorers in Bridgemohan’s XI innings.

Joell Joseph (2-8) and Steffi Rodney and Reka Roopnauth with 2-17 each, along with Heema Singh’s 2-21, were the wicket-takers for Campbell’s XI.

Meanwhile, chairman of selectors Michael Franco Hyles, told Stabroek Sport that the 20 woman squad for the tournament was selected but the squad had to be ratified by the GCB before the names could be revealed.
