Trophy Stall 15-Over Countrywide Softball Competition… West Watooka and Sunrise score hefty wins

West Watooka and Sunrise Sports Clubs demolished Genesis XI and Nottinghamsire SC respectively last Saturday in the Berbice and Linden zones of the Guyana Softball League (GSL) organized Trophy Stall 15-Over Countrywide Softball Competition.

West Watooka SC hammered Genesis Xi by 125 runs while Sunrise SC thrashed Nottinghamsire SC (NSC) by 108 runs at the Silvertown and Christianburg grounds respectively.

Over at Silvertown WWSC got the opportunity to take first strike and amassed a mammoth 247 – 2 in their allotted overs led by two terrific half centuries from Simeon Simmons (66) and Eon Samuels (64) and they received support from Cyril Prince who played a belligerent innings of 47 while Sean Mc Almont took 3 – 75 for the opposition.

Genesis could only get a score of 122 before being bowled out in 14.3 overs which had Gary Blunt and Carl Spenser grabbing 3 – 24 and 2 – 20 even as Mc Almont put up some resistance before being removed for 37.

Led by a Dennis Dean innings of 75 and supported by teammate Anthony Bernard (37) Sunrise SC rocketed to 190 in 15 overs batting first against NSC who had Richard Selmo spearheading their bowling attack with 3 – 30.

NSC made a paltry reply of 82 crumbling to Dean and David Allicock who ended with figures of 3 – 35 and 3 – 30 respectively while Vickram Persaud top scored for NSC with 26.

Link Up XI suffered a blow out defeat at the hands of Reggae Sports Club falling short by 104 runs after RSC posted a total of 148 – 7 batting first and being supported entirely by Zack Williams who contributed a sterling innings of 72.

Delwin Hicks ripped through the Link Up batting lineup and ended with 3 – 11 as the opposition was bundled out for 44 in 6.5 overs.

In other results Genesis Plus and Reggae SC’s B Team clinched close victories over Uprising SC and Force XI respectively.

Genesis bowled out Uprising for 99 in ten overs. Suresh Mohan and Randy Randall led the attack both picking up 3 – 15 before their team replied and made 100 losing eight wickets in the process.

RSC ‘B’ Team batted first and posted 150 – 3 and then restricted Force XI to 134 in 13.2 overs for victory.
