Buhmann, 28, will begin his short stint with a courtesy call on  Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony this morning.

Minister Anthony since taking office has been a strong advocate for the resuscitation of the game in Guyana and has pushed for the resurrection of the GCF, which is now headed by renowned chess player and columnist, Errol Tiwari.

It  has been over ten years since a chess grandmaster  has visited these shores but at 5:30 pm Guyana’s active chess players will have a chance to interact with the grandmaster at the Foreign Service Institute.

Tomorrow, the West Demerara Secondary  is slated to play host to the grandmaster for a day of interaction and according to a release from the GCF, schools from as far as Linden and Berbice have signalled their intentions of attending the event.

Meanwhile, 25 of Guyana’s strongest chess players will face Buhmann at the Umana Yana from 4:30 pm in a grand simultaneous display which has not been witnessed in Guyana for a number of years.

To culminate his stay on these shores on Saturday, Buhmann will meet with students of Queen’s College from 10:00 am to give a lecture on the erudite sport and to assist in their personal development as well.

He will then face 100 students concurrently once again to display his ability in the game.
The German is at present ranked at number ten in his home country and holds a world ranking of 263. His next outing will be at the Heroes Day Chess Cup tournament in Barbados at the end of the month.
