GCA wants dialogue with DCB and GCB over disqualification

The Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) has objected to its disqualification from the final of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) organized W&H Rambarran/German Restaurant sponsored Under-19 Inter-association competition.

According to president of the DCB, Bissoondial Singh, the Georgetown team was disqualified from the tournament after being accused of playing an overage player.

A press release sent by the GCA admitted that the player in question, Carl Rambharose, was one day older than the selection criteria established under the rules of the competition.

The GCA stated in the release that even though they were willing to accept responsibility for fielding an overage player, they have some concerns which they wish to raise with not only the DCB, but also the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB).

The GCA also stated that they were yet to receive an official notification with regards to the disqualification adding that no official word of protest was lodged against them from any of the opposing teams with regards to the inclusion of Rambharose in their final 11.

Apart from playing for and representing the GCA, Rambharose was selected to represent Demerara in the GCB/GTM Under-19 Inter-county tournament.

He was also called to trials by the junior national selectors.
The GCA also claimed that the process for checking date  of births for  registered players for specific competitions take place at the association, county and national levels and said if they were guilty of selecting Rambharose then the DCB, who selected him for the Inter-county tournament will have to be found guilty as well.
It is in this vein that the GCA has brought the matter to the attention of the GCB whom they see as the final arbitrator and who they expect to intercede at the level necessary to ensure the matter is dealt with according to the rules established without exception to the cricketing community.

Prior to their disqualification, Georgetown were scheduled to face West Demerara in the final after playing unbeaten throughout the preliminary stages of the competition.

Eventual champions East Coast took their place instead and romped to a comfortable eight-wicket victory last Wednesday.
