$100,00 he can’t take me out in four rounds’ –Gilkes

The tension is building for the S and S Promotions ‘Final Execution’ card as Leon ‘The Lion’ Gilkes throws out a challenge to anyone in the sport, stating that he would wager $100,000 that Leon ‘Too Sharp’ Allen cannot knock him out in four rounds.

Speaking at a press conference held yesterday at the King’s Plaza Hotel on Main Street, Georgetown, the two fighters exchanged verbal blows which certainly hyped up their clash on Saturday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall for the vacant National Super Middleweight title.

Allen, who is touted as one of Guyana’s brightest prospects to become a world champion had made it clear that Gilkes would not last four rounds in the ring with him while the latter has stated that Allen is living in a dream world.

“I don’t know what this guy thinking…he can knock me out in four rounds? As a matter of fact, I have $100,000 to bet anyone that Allen can’t knock me out in four rounds, anybody want to bet send them, because it’s impossible…who he think he is…some of the best fighters right now tried and didn’t do it so why he think he can do it,” Gilkes stated.

Allen responded: “Look I know what I am capable of doing and that is nothing hard for me to do, it’s like I know Gilkes and I know me well, that’s why I’m saying he can’t pass four rounds…he can put how much money he wants on it too, it will happen.”

The 24-year-old fighter also stated that it was Gilkes’ bragging that made him accept the fight in order to put the record straight that he is the better fighter between the two.

Gilkes and Allen were down to face each other earlier in the year but at the time Allen was sparing with Glen Johnson and sprained his hand.

This allowed ‘The Lion’ to say that Allen was scared to face him. However, things took a turn when Allen returned home and publicly declared that he was willing to face Gilkes for free, based on his comments.

“Look, I say in boxing that we both have two hands and a pair of gloves so anything can happen, but this time around I just know that for nothing Gilkes can’t win this fight.  I’m too hungry, I came back home to fight Eastman but that didn’t work out but fighting Gilkes would make up things cause I’ll beat him up really bad,” Allen said.

And the fight on Saturday would be very interesting as well because Gilkes told the gathering that it would mean too much for him to lose and going all out would be the only thing on his mind.

With no predictions Gilkes said that if the knockout comes he would take it but going for the ‘W’ is the only thing on his mind.

Allen in response said: “It’s like he’s dreaming because there is no way Gilkes can win this fight, no way, come on, this guy really thinks he can beat me, look, like I said, knockout in four rounds is it, that’s all I know….four rounds and even if he makes it out….God be with him cause it’s not going to be nice.”

Meanwhile, the record between the two fighters paint a very contrasting story and one that can be used by pundits to predict a winner.

Allen has only fought nine fights since turning  pro in 2004 and has an unblemished record with five of his wins coming by way of a technical knockout.

Gilkes on the other hand has fought 17 times but has only tasted victory in four bouts, losing 10 while the others ended in draws.
