Spready’s Bakery U-19 50-Over Cricket Competition

– Six teams romp to victory

Six venues, six matches, and six winners were the highlights as another round of the recently-resumed Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Spready’s Bakery 2009 Under-19 50-Over Cricket Competition was contested throughout the Ancient County.

Blairmont Community Centre (BCC) crushed Bath Development Centre, Paradise defeated Bath Aditya, Rose Hall Community Centre (RCC) defeated Young Hustlers, Port Mourant A slammed Courtland, Rainbow Generation won against No. 2 and De Edward whipped Woodley Park Young Strikers.

At Blairmont, the home team registered a 10-wicket win over Bath Development Centre. Led by a terrific bowling spell from medium pacer Phillip Edwards who took 4 for 17, BCC were able to restrict Bath to 61 in 16.1 overs, then successfully reach the winning target of 62 in 9.5 overs.

Opening batsmen Wazid Suban and Deodat Singh contributed unbeaten scores of 33 and 11 respectively while the other top scorer was extras with 18.

Despite a good all round performance from Bath Aditya’s Lakeram Chaitram who scored 35 and then took 5 for 45, his team still lost by one wicket to Paradise at the Bath DC ground.

Bath took first strike and rattled up a total of 154 in 33 overs with Chaitram receiving support from Andrew Jagnauth (20) while Deswin Butts (4-11), Delroy Wilson (2-12) and Paul Reid (2-23) sawed through the batting lineup. Paradise’s opening batsman Dexter Noble then stood firm in a sterling innings of 55 and was helped by Butts (22) to successfully lead them to victory when it was their time to reply.

Young Hustlers suffered a 67-run defeat at the hands of RCC at Rose Hall in Canje. RCC took first strike and posted a total of 152 in 33 overs with Vedesh Singh top scoring 35 as Jurm DeFreitas and Denesh Gopaul contributed 33 and 24 respectively while Tevon Reis bagged 4-14. Vedesh Singh with 3-17 was the chief destroyer for RCC as Young Hustlers crumbled to 85 in 26 overs.

Courtland ground was then the venue where Port Mourant A beat Courtland by 63 runs. Port Mourant A scored 196 in 45.5 overs with Jamal Cort blasting 40 and Mark Bheemsingh (27), Reshan Brusch (26) and Hemchand Kalloo (26) supporting heavily against Kelon Sinclair and Oswin Simon who took 3-62 and 2-31 respectively.
Courtland were only able to get to 133 in 32 overs.  Roydel Clarke top scored with 22 while Chandrashekar Arjune, Sasenarine Ernest and George Hughes picked up two wickets each for 31, 12 and 34 runs respectively.

Seafield then had Rainbow Generation beating No. 2 by 39 runs in a low scoring encounter. Rainbow Generation posted a total of 119 in 21 overs then rattled the opposition out for 80 in 22 overs.

At Woodley Park, De Edward beat Woodley Park Young Strikers by 8 wickets. Woodley Park Young Strikers accumulated a paltry 75 in 23.1 overs and did not do much to defend it as De Edward rocketed to 79 for 2 in 13.1 overs for victory.
