Mike’s Pharmacy 15-Over Competition

As the opening days of the Mike’s Pharmacy 15-Over Softball League Countrywide Softball Competition unfolded Superstreet, Endeavour and Players XI enjoyed their match-ups to the fullest.

In the Under-15 category which began on Saturday, Superstreet recorded the most comfortable victory when they defeated Uitvlugt Youths by nine wickets at the Uitvlugt ground.

Uitvlugt Youths won the toss and took first strike rattling up 73-6 wickets in their allotted 10 overs with Sherwin Greene (27) top scoring while Eon Bisram took 4-10 for the eventual victors.

In reply, Superstreet XI rocketed to 74-1 in 6 overs with Nicholas Shivkumar leading the way with a belligerent 43 that included three sixes and two fours.

Still at the Uitvlugt ground, Uitvlugt Cricket Club defeated Ruimzeight Sports Club by six wickets and Best Road defeated Leonora Youths Warriors by five wickets. In the East Coast Zone, Success A got past Ogle Juniors by 13 runs, Christianburg Section B defeated Blueberry Hill Cricket Club by six wickets at the Christianburg ground in Linden while West Watooka SC defeated Genesis XI by five wickets and Nottinghamshire gained a walkover from Kara Kara Kings.

Endeavour and Players XI were the only two teams to record double victories on Sunday as the Open Category of the Guyana Softball League tournament began.
At 10 am Players XI defeated La Grange All Youths by 22 runs in their first match. Players XI batted first and scored 148 – 6 from 15 overs with Ray Richards slamming a thunderous 60 (5×6) and Vijay Plummer supporting with 30 while Deoram Persaud and Lakeram Sankar took two wickets each for 22 and 17 for La Grange respectively.

In reply All Youths could only muster 126 all out in 14.2 overs despite Ricky Persaud’s defiant innings of 70 (5×6) held off Manoj Persaud who took 3-17.

Players XI in their second match-up defeated Independence SC by five wickets. Independence SC won the toss and batted, scoring a meagre 64 all out in 11.1 overs, Sunil Baichan ripped through the batting line-up with 4-8.

In reply Players XI made 70-5 from 10 overs, Ray Richards top scored with an unbeaten 22 not out while David Allot grabbed 2-28.

Genesis were defeated by 16 runs when Endeavour XI batted first and scored 171-9 in 15 overs then restricted them to 155 compliments of Curtis Gomes who grabbed 5-23 for Endeavour.

Endeavour XI in their second encounter defeated Sunrise SC by six wickets. Sunrise SC batted first and scored 117-8 in 15 overs as Melroy Gomes played a major role in restricting them to that score when he took 4-11.

Endeavour XI reached the target in just 11 overs after blazing to 118 for the loss of four wickets while  Chris Davidson slammed an unbeaten 50 to see his team home.

In other results, Shattazville XI defeated Rangers “B” SC by 30 runs, Superstreet XI beat Hubu XI by 11 runs and Leonora Youths defeated Raiders XI by 27 runs at the Leonora ground in the West Coast Zone.

At Bayrock ground, Bad Boys XI defeated South Star XI by 18 runs, West Watooka SC made light work of Desert Storm XI 36 runs while Nottinghamshire SC defeated Victory 14 XI by 2 wickets.

Over at the Ogle ground, Legacy XI defeated Gas XI by 43 runs, Upsetters XI defeated Hitters XI by 52 runs, Country Side XI defeated Upsetters XI (in their second match) by five wickets, Dare Devils XI made light work of Rockets XI by 28 runs and Gas XI defeated Ogle Mandir XI by 7 wickets.
