Four teams through to next round

Guinness Futsal Competition…

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Pele, Sunburst Camptown and Flamingo Football Clubs moved on to the next knockout stage of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCY&S)/Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Guinness Futsal Competition after sending their opponents packing on Friday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

In game one Flamingo brushed aside South Soesdyke (3 – 1), Camptown defeated BV Sideline Dam 2 – 0 in game two, Pele got past Victoria Kings 2 – 1 and GDF sunk Alpha United 2 – 1 in the final battle of the night.

The exhibition matches saw Camp Street Taxi Drivers defeating Clippers Barbershop 2 – 1; Customs defeating Upper Level Barbershop by the same margin and Victoria team playing to a draw with Eagles in the female match.

In the feature battle of the evening, GDF outdid the Alpha United team in a nail-biting affair where the army team struck first.

Kevin Lewis opened the scoring for GDF with his sixth minute goal that was answered the very next minute from Dwight Peters who equalized for Alpha.

The first half ended with the teams tied.

Marlon Benjamin then regained the lead for GDF with his 15th minute strike.

Pele was down by one goal to the Victoria team who drew first blood from a Selwyn Samuels strike.

Shemroy Arthur equalized for Pele in the 15th minute then scored in the 21st minute to push his team through to the next round.

Led by a Dwayne Layne double (10th and 22nd); Flamingo was able to claim a come-from-behind victory against South Soesdyke who gained the lead in the 12th minute.

Leon Yaw found the equalizer for Flamingo in the 13th minute to get his team back into the game before going ahead.

BV Sideline Dam and Camptown contested a tough first half without either team being able to score. Camptown were finally able to score when Kester Alleyne beat the opposition’s custodian in the 18th minute while his teammate, Sherwin Cadogan followed up with a 21st minute goal.
