GFA season resumes this weekend

The Georgetown Football Association (GFA) resumes its outdoor calendar of events this weekend with matches in the First Division, Under-17 and Under-11 categories after the rainy reason had made venues unfit for play.

According to a press release from the GFA, the three grounds being used for the competitions, Georgetown Football Club ground (GFC), Tucville playfield and Camptown are in top condition to allow the resumption of play.

The Western Union First Division, Trix Under-17 and Courts Pee Wee Under-11 competitions will have matches from August 8-10.

The action commences on Saturday morning with the Under-17 competition that has two double headers billed for Tucville and Camptown grounds.

At the Tucville ground, the undefeated home team, Fruta Conquerors, will battle with GFC in the curtain raiser at 8:00am while Pele will face Flamingo at 10:00pm and simultaneously Sunburst Camptown will clash with BK International Western Tigers while Renaissance will meet Black Pearl in the double header at Camptown.

Monday, Alpha United and GFC clash at GFC ground and Riddim Squad will collide with Flamingo at Tucville with a 4:15pm kick off.

Conquerors and Alpha are on top of Group A with six and three points respectively, Uprising and Pele top Group B with seven and three points respectively while Western Tigers and Camptown are tied with six points in Group C with Tigers ahead on goal difference.

Saturday afternoon, Guyana’s future football stars will invade the Tucville playfield as the Pee Wee Competition resumes with five matches.

Renaissance and Fruta Conquerors meet Santos and Riddim Squad at 1:00pm, Western Tigers and Thomas United do battle with Buxton United and Uprising at 2:00pm and Pele face Sunburst Camptown at 3:00pm.

Conquerors and Santos command Group A with six points each while Marian Academy and Renaissance trail with three points each. The dominant Uprising team is on top of Group B with nine points, Thomas is second with four points while Tigers and Camptown follow with three points each.

Sunday, Santos and Thomas United will engage Houston Stars and Beacon United at the Camptown ground in the First Division tourney with the curtain raiser commencing at 2:00pm.

The undefeated Uprising with nine points and Santos and Riddim Squad Football Teams who are also unbeaten on six points each are at the top of the table.
