BCB to host historic under-13 cricket event

History will be created in Berbice on Saturday when the Berbice Cricket Board hosts the first ever U-13 cricket tournament in the county.
The Poonai Pharmacy/BCB Under-13 Inter-Zone Tournament bowls off with two matches at the Area “H” ground and Rose Hall, Welfare Canje ground.

The tournament would involve four inter-zone teams and would be used by the Junior Selection Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board to identity an elite 20-man squad for future cricket development.

Lower Corentyne led by Arif Chan would clash with Central/Upper Corentyne with Veinora Gooniah as captain at the Port Mourant ground while Hakeem Hinds would lead New Amsterdam/Canje against West Berbice at the Canje ground.
Matches would be played on a one-day, two-innings format and begins at 10.00 hours.

The losers would clash for 3rd place on 24th August while the finals would be held the following day at the Area “H” ground.
 The Berbice Cricket Board would be awarding outstanding performers with educational packages. The Junior Selection Committee under the chairmanship of Leslie Solomon selected the four teams after holding practice sessions across the county. The four teams selected are:

Central/Upper Corentyne:  Vienora Gooniah (captain), Tameshwar Kumar, Yogesh Baichan, Mohamed Razack, Mohamed Deochan, Moniesh Persaud, Rameshwar Ramsayal, Rishi Persaud, Wasikar Ramsarran, Kumar Sirikissoon, Joshua Seecharran, Emanuel Seecharran, Hemraj Ganesh, and Akshay Hemraj.

Lower Corentyne:  Aril Chan (captain), Mahendra Mangar, Matthew Steven Latchana, Javes Seecharran, Rajendra Deonarine, Karran Singh, Ray Borne Murray, Manoj Looknauth, Daniel Lewis, Sisique George, Denzil Sinclair, Brandon Prasad, Karran Singh, Ryan Harry, Usher Crawford, Mark Lewis, Samuel Kishan Sammy, Saud Hamid, and Veramootoo Semwansie.

New Amsterdam/Canje:  Hakeem Hinds (captain), Marlon Shepherd, Leon Andrews, Gary Millington, Kwesi Mickle, Randolph Davis, Shimron Hetmyer, Kierre Henry, Michael Singh, Nial Smith, Ramesh Seenarine, Jamal Butts, Adrian Persaud, and Arvada Mc Kenzie.
