Courts-sponsored Medal Play golf tourney set for this week-end

Local furniture giants Courts will sponsor this weekend’s Medal Play golf tournament to be played over two days Saturday and Sunday at the Lusignan Golf Course.

Jerome Khan, captain of the Lusignan Golf Club  (LGC) received from Courts Marketing Assistant Pernell Cummings  a cheque valued  $200,000 as well as trophies,  Tee-shirts  and sun-visors at a simple ceremony yesterday at Courts head office  on Main Street.

Khan said that Courts was a regular sponsor of golf locally but this year their contribution has increased and local golfers will be battling over 36 holes starting at 12:30 hours on both days.

According to Khan the winner’s trophy will be awarded to the player with the best net score.

There will also be trophies for the second and third place finishers as well as Nearest to the Pin on both days.

Last year’s Courts sponsored tournament was won by Clifford Reis who is expected to be part of a strong line up which will also include Courts Country Manager Lester Alvis, an ardent golf player.

Also expected to be on show are the inform Mohanlall “Suntoo” Dinanauth”, Albert Russell, Munaf Arjune, Christine  Sukhram, Imran Khan, Patrick Prashad, Alfred Mentore, Maurice Solomon, Carlos Adams, Dr. Ram Singh, Mark Lashley, Gavin Todd, Brian Hackett, Colin Ming, Ian Gouveia, Mike Mangal, Mike Guyadin, Ronald Bulkan, Mel Sankies and Melissa Humphrey.

Troy Peters, Public Relations officer of the LGC said that most of the players are in impressive form having participated in recent regional tournaments in Barbados and Suriname.

He noted that it will be the perfect opportunity for the players to test their mettles over two days in preparation for the Annual Guyana Open billed for November.

Peters encouraged members of the public and media personnel to attend this weekend’s event at the East Coast Demerara Course.

Courts representative, Cummings said that his company was pleased to sponsor this tournament once again and he indicated that the event will be action-packed.
