Diwali horse race meet set for Norman Singh Memorial turf club

The year is fast coming to an end but there seems to be no let up in horse racing activity.

On Sunday, the Rising Sun Turf Club in collaboration with the True Friends Committee Charity Organisation of Guyana will stage an eight race card at the Rising Sun Turf Club West Coast Berbice.

And, come next month, the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club at Number Five Village, West Coast Berbice, in collaboration with the Custom Racing Stable has in store for horse racing enthusiasts a grand eight race Diwali programme with lots of cash on offer.

The event is set for October 18 and the feature event will be the `B’ Class and Lower over 1200m for a top prize of $350,000.

Second, third and fourth placed finishers in this event will receive $175,000, $87, 000 and $45,000 respectively.

The `F’ and Lower event over a distance of 1200m carries a first prize of $220,000 with $110,000,  $55,000 and $28,000 earmarked for the next three finishers.

Another lucrative event will be the three-year-old Open to Guyana and West Indian-bred horses over 1600m.

It carries a first prize of $250,000 while the second, third and fourth placed finishers will receive $125,000, $62,000 and $32,000 respectively.

The `G’ and `H’ and Lower event over 1100m has a first prize of $150,000 with 75,000, 37,000 and 20,000 going to the second, third and fourth placed finishers while the two-year-olds non-winners, Guyana-bred horses will compete over a distance of 1100m for a first prize of $180,000 with $90, 000, $45,000 and $23,000 going to the second, third and fourth-placed finishers.

The Unclassified Divisions One and Two event over 1400m has a first prize of $120,000 with $60,000, $30,000 and $15,000 going to the next three finishers.

The `I’ and Lower race over 1200m has a first prize of $130,000 with $65,000, $32,000 and $17,000 going to the next three finishers while the Unclassified Division Three race will see the winner earning  $90,000 with $45, 000, $22,000 and $11, 000 going to the next three finishers.
