President’s College seeking help to stage annual relay c/ships

President’s College is preparing to host its fifth annual Relay Championships in January and is seeking assistance to help purchase prizes for the winners.

Physical Education teacher Keith Smith yesterday told Stabroek Sport that it had become increasingly challenging to purchase medals and other prizes for winners of the various categories.

The Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport had been written to and according to Smith had undertaken to partly sponsor the event.

Smith said that other letters had already been drafted to send to other corporate entities for their assistance.

He said that this would serve to be less strenuous on his 17 students, who have to do all the work for their School Based Assessment (SBA).

According to Smith the planning and execution phase of the championships is a tedious task.

He also noted that the school ground was in a deplorable condition and was hampering the effective execution of the Physical Education programme.

Despite these constraints, Smith feels that his students will pull off the event.

He disclosed that there had been some work done by the Parent Teachers’ Association but work on that project had stalled.

He added that his school had a good chance of defeating defending champions Christ Church Secondary stating that there were many national athletes at the school who could help restore the school to its former track and field glory.
