Zone B wins Enterprise Premier League Twenty20 tourney

In brilliant sunshine with a carnival atmosphere Zone B’s  Babsie/Roopie team defeated Zone A to win the Sport Ministry’s trophy and $25,000 from the Guyana Beverage Company in the Enterprise Premier League Twenty20 Inter-Zone competition held Saturday.

Zone A posted a respectable 150-5 from their allotted 20 overs with Parmanand Dindyal making 46 and Latchman Yadram contributing 41 while Marshall Karamchand treated the crowd to a stroke-filled 28.

Zone B in reply, reached 151-3 with Davendra Persaud making 70 and Zaheer Mohammed, 32.

At the presentation ceremony, Zone A received $15,000 and a trophy donated by the ministry.

Mohammed received the best batsman award along with five thousand dollars.

Devendra Persaud, who had earlier taken two wickets for 24 runs, copped the best bowler prize of five thousand dollars and a trophy which was donated by Sean Devers.

Meanwhile, in match one, Zone B took first strike and made 161-3 in 15 overs. In reply Zone C could only muster 98-9 in their 15 overs. When Zone B batted Mohammed made 59 and Kaioum Hamid supported with 43.

Raja Amit Pooran was the only batsman for Zone C that made a meaningful contribution. He scored 33. Persaud started the decline before ending with 2-19.

In match two Zone A Jaimangal/Shaheed beat Zone D Indian/Reds by 74 runs. Zone a batted first scoring 142-5 in 15 overs with Bridjanand Singh (68) and S. Safdar (55) the top scorers. Rasheed Baksh was the most successful bowler with 1-15.

In Zone D’s response they only mustered 65-8 in 15 overs with Videsh Lall’s 20 being the top score.

Safdar had excellent figures of 2-4.

The T20 festival of matches was organized by the Enterprise Community Literacy Programme.
