ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Robust knocks from Rawle Lewis and Andre Fletcher powered West Indies Masters to a five-wicket win over the World Masters yesterday, as they completed a sweep of their Twenty20 double-header in the Grenada Cricket Classic.
Lewis hammered 48 from 33 balls while Fletcher carved out an attractive 44 from 28 balls to push the West Indies Masters up to 129 for five off 18 overs, overhauling the 124 for eight made by the World XI at the National Stadium here.
It was their second win in as many days following a 53-run victory on Saturday.
Lewis and Fletcher shared an entertaining 73-run, second wicket stand which laid the foundation for West Indies Masters’ win, after opener Franklyn Stephenson went cheaply for four with the score on 11.
The 35-year-old Lewis counted six fours and two sixes while Fletcher belted six fours and three sixes.
Legendary West Indies captain Sir Vivian Richards chipped in with a stylish 14 from 18 balls, which included one four and a six.
Former England left-arm spinner Nick Cook was the leading bowler with three for nine.
Earlier, Australian Stuart Law top scored with 33 off 24 balls and Derek Randall fashioned 31 from 26 balls, to get the World Masters up to their eventual score.
In the first game of the day, Barbados also swept their doubleheader against Grenada, when they won handsomely by seven wickets with five balls to spare.
Grenada posted 145 for five from their 20 overs, with Devon Smith hitting 42 from 35 balls and Garfield Charles chipping in with 36 from 41 deliveries.
Ronald Etienne hammered 32 from 18 balls to keep the innings alive after it begun to falter, as Jason Hinds (2-16) and Khalid Springer (2-31) struck crucial blows.
Opener Martin Nurse then blasted 59 from 43 balls with seven fours and two sixes, to lead Barbados to 148 for three.
The left-hander posted 93 for the third wicket with Kirk Edwards who saw his side home with an unbeaten 48 off 37 balls.
