$1M up for grabs at this year’s rodeo

Rodeo ‘bucks’ into action at the Rising Sun Turf Club with $1M up for grabs in the one-day event.

According to President of the Rising Sun Rodeo Committee Inshanally Habibulla, “It will be a day full of fun with vaqueros from throughout the country expected to display their skills.” The programme also listed a number of other events such as steer roping, bare back bronco, male and female barrel race, wild cow milking, calf roping, wild bull riding, and saddle bronco and the popular Tug-o-War event. Habibulla said that vaqueros (cow boys) are expected from across the country including Lethem and the Rupununi Savannahs as well as from Suriname, Venezuela and Brazil to match skills with their local counterparts. Habibulla also told Stabroek Sport that there will also be a Rodeo Queen’s event for the best female vaquero (cow girl) who will be adjudged the Rodeo Queen.  He noted that it is costly to bring the vaqueros but the committee will foot the bill to have the “best” vaqueros on show.

This event has now become a regular feature on the Rising Sun calendar and is held as part of West Berbice Agriculture Month activities. This year it will be held on The October 25 and will start at 12pm.

Banks DIH limited and Rhythm Stars International will be on board to add some spice to the day’s activities. Other sponsors of the event include Neal and Massy and Geddes Grant and AH&L Kissoon. Interested persons can contact Habibulla on 623-4495, 648-6522 and 623-5453.
