Georgetown Cricket Club’s (GCC) Vishal Singh, Malteenoes Sports Club’s (MSC) Deon Ferrier and Guyana National Industrial Corporation (GNIC) David Dick recorded the first centuries in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) first division three-day competition yesterday.
Singh and Leon Johnson, resuming on their first day scores of 61 and 12 from last weekend, reached 110 and 53 respectively as GCC amassed 344 and a first innings lead of 163 in the first innings against Everest Cricket Club (ECC) at the GCC ground, Bourda.
Last weekend, ECC scored 181 from 41.2 overs with Chris Pattadin scoring an aggressive 64 that included 10 boundaries and a six.
By the close of play yesterday ECC had already reached 163-4 thanks to an 83-run fifth-wicket partnership between Ryan Rajmangal, who is unbeaten on 46 and Troy Gonsalves, not out on 32.
Meanwhile, over at the ECC ground, GNIC maintained their stranglehold over the Transport Sports Club (TSC). GNIC won the toss last weekend and batted and scored 247 all out with Ranole Bourne top scoring with 77. He got valuable support from Eijaz Mohammed (66) and Krishna Arjune (36).
Imtiaz Pooran bagged 5-59 from 21 overs and Kevin Ross 2-52 from 20 overs for TSC. In reply, TSC were bowled out for a paltry 98 with Shawn Massiah scoring 24. Bourne returned with the ball to pick up figures of 5-31 from 15 overs while Collis Butts, from his 11 overs, snared four wickets for 28 runs.
In GNIC’s second innings they increased their first innings lead of 149 to reach 295-5 declared thereby setting TSC a mammoth 444 for victory today. Dick ended with an undefeated and even 100 while Arjune was again among the runs with 87 and Rayon Griffith not out on 54; Ross took 2-51 from 19 overs.
In TSC’s response at the end of the second day they were 42-2 with Shane Cummings already back in the pavilion.
Stephon Sampson and Steven Alves are the not out batsmen on 13 and zero respectively.
Over on Thomas Lands, Ferrier continued his fine form when he stroked 104 and returned with the ball to snatch 2-18 (6) against Police as MSC, resuming on their overnight score of 152-2, reached 377-5 declared. Danny Narayan (80), Orin Forde 972) and Kellon Carmichael (52 not out), in his return match for MSC after a brief transfer to GDF, all supported with half centuries.
Police at the end of the day were 121-4 from 26 overs with Troy Benn scoring an aggressive 49, which included eight boundaries and a six. Shameer Fazal and Dwayne Mc Pherson got starts of 32 and 28 respectively.
Demerara Cricket Club drew first blood against East Bank Demerara’s New Line Cavalier (NLC) at the DCC ground. The low scoring affair saw DCC’s Derwin Christian top scoring with 51 as his team made 166 from 54.3 overs. NLC replied with 95 from 27.5 overs; Cohen Ismond was the chief scorer with 29.
When DCC batted former national leg spinner Mahendra Nagamootoo picked up four wickets for 67 runs from 17.3 overs while Chien Gittes and Balram Samaroo provided support with 2-23 and 2-17. Totaram Bishune snared a five wicket haul with 5-31 from 10.5 overs and former national spinner Garvin Nedd aided with 3-10 as DCC took first innings points with a lead of 71 runs.
