And RHTYSC Secretary/ CEO Hilbert Foster during his feature address said that the main aim of the tribute to heroes programme is to honour outstanding residents of the township and surrounding villages.

He told the awardees, “You are all what we call silent heroes – people who work behind the limelight without any fanfare but whose contribution to our nation is unmatched. Your commitment, your honestly, passion for your country and work ethic are what makes you heroes and our country is much richer today because of your outstanding contribution over the years”.

Foster was addressing the 5th annual Milton Armogan Memorial Tribute to heroes programme organised by the RHTYSC Farfan & Mendes under-15, Bakewell under-17 and Pepsi under-19 cricket teams at the Area ‘H’ ground last Sunday.

The long serving Secretary/CEO told the awardees that their contributions along with thousands of other silent heroes have caused Guyana to be at its current stage of development. He also told them that they should be proud of their years of service but he also challenged them to share their experiences with youths.

Captain of the Bakewell under-17 team Dominic Rickey, speaking on behalf of the three teams, expressed gratitude to Lynden Armogan, son of the late Milton Armogan, for sponsoring the event.

Rickey stated that he and his fellow young cricketers were privileged to host and honour the awardees since they are viewed as role models and heroes. He pledged that he and his fellow youths would work hard to follow in the footsteps of the awardees and be positive contributors to the development of Guyana.

And representing Armogan, Alain Ramnauth thanked the RHTYSC for organising the event as it was very important for a community to honour and recognise the contribution of those who are now retired after working beyond the call of duty. Ramnauth praised the club for its work with the youth, elderly and less fortunate and pledged that Armogan, who is a New York-based businessman, would continue to support the club.

Speaking on behalf of the awardees was Clendon Lashley who stated that they all felt humbled to be honoured as heroes and pledged that they would continue to contribute to the development of Guyana. Agnes Crawford stated that never in her life has she felt more proud and privileged to be honoured by Guyana’s leading youth and sports club.

Those honoured by the club were Clendon Lashley,  Retired Police Officer; Agnes Crawford,  Retired Cook (Guysuco); Volda Cort,  Retired Prison Officer; Kenneth Khedwaroo,  Retired Educator; Jean Lewis,  Retired Labourer (GUYSUCO); Wycliffe Brijaddar,  Contractor; Leonard Cyril, Jeweller; Ramdat Mahadeo, Carpenter; Irene Trim,  Retired Rose Hall Market Cleaner; and Oswald Mann, Retired Cultural Organiser.

They all received a Milton Armogan Memorial Certificate of Achievement and four special gifts from the club.

The RHTYSC and its three junior cricket teams expressed gratitude to Lynden Armogan and his family for the programme in memory of the late Milton Armogan, who was a member of Parliament (MP), community activist and Justice of the Peace (JP).
